OP-ED: A Good Man Has Gone To Rest, By Yahaya Goje

Before his demise, Alh Bashir Tofa created the Southern Kaduna Peace Initiative which he nurtured with kin interest. The vision came from the need to have an outreach to the people of southern Kaduna. An up scale to the possibilities of uniting the region with good memories of the past and work with the foundation that enables peaceful co-existence in the region and its surroundings, as losing lives every day bordered not just him but everyone.

He believed Nigeria has been through a lot and it is the role of elders to work towards getting Nigerians together and that is what he was doing. His dream was to see a rebuilt southern Kaduna beyond ethnoreligious lines and political differences.

His Excellency believed in doing things right. As an advocate of peace Nationally and internationally, his call for the result has attracted a lot of attention and its articulation to finding a base to domicile. The idea was the present engagement before the demise, with special preparations to advance the Chief Security officer of the state HE Mal Nasir el-rufai to make his purpose known unambiguously as ideas were to complement his great Job from Citizenship angle.

The man of purpose, Alh. Bashir Tofa was a known elder to the political history of Nigeria. Having contested with Chief Mko Abiola for the Presidential race and origin from Kano, finds Kaduna to be home. It’s unfortunate that his demise came shortly before the actualisation of the Southern Kaduna Peace Initiative, but we’ll continue from where he stopped. May his soul rest in peace.
