OPINION: Power Is Not Given It Is Taken, By Felix Bature

Let me start by saying that you can’t think of the next general Elections without thinking of the next generation, if you are a patriotic Nigerian. But it’s unfortunate that the youths who claim that they are tired of the state of the nation are the ones who usually sells their votes during elections.
Let me also add that it’s unfortunate that the youths who are complaining of being unemployed, most of them are the ones who don’t have PVCs, neither do they participate in Political activities in order to contribute their quota towards changing the status quo. What they fail to understand is that the cost of life, in general all depends on political decisions, from the price of goods and services down to our lifestyle. Everything depends on the law makers decisions. And how will the youths trusts the candidate they are voting for?
We have to do away with party politics, we should start voting for true leaders who actually know the problem the people are facing. You can’t provide solution when you don’t know the problem. We keep voting older people with old mentality and still expect them to think the way we do.

It is time for the youths of Southern Kaduna, Northern Kaduna and Nigeria as a whole to join forces and work towards changing the status quo. It’s time they pull back and let us lead. The old leaders whom have failed us depends on us for everything. The youth are their social media team, the youth are the Political thugs, the youth are the support groups, the youth are the voters. Without us these people can not win an Election because the youth are the majority of Nigerian voters. Instead of allowing them to buy our conscience, why not come together and work towards Supporting one another?
With little or no resources, we can get to the pinnacle of our ambitions if we support each other. Infact we can create go fund me accounts and raise funds for those who intend to contest just like we did during the endsars protests. There is no limit to what we can achieve when we join forces. One of the penalties of refusing to participate in politics is that you’ll end up being governed by your inferiors.

The reason some of us decided to contest is because we’ve had enough. We are tired of being under the mercy of incompetent leaders who use us during elections and close their doors immediately they win. Majority of them are not in their youth so they don’t care about our plights. They win election and disappear, then they appear during another election in order to use money to buy our conscience.

Come 2023, we’ll show them that enough is enough. The youths would rise in their numbers and Support one another. Let’s understand the fact that nobody will give us power, we’d have to take it. The journey has already began, those who don’t intend to contest should get their PVCs in order to vote for their Comrades. However you can support the aspiration of your fellow youth, please do it. We are no longer the leaders of tomorrow, we are the leaders of today!
